Topography

Victoria was formed by water in various forms. Pleistocene glaciation covered the area with thick ice and as they retreated, they left a thick deposit of sand and gravel. Post-glacial rebound exposed the present day terrain to air and mud deposit above the sea level. The resultant soil is highly variable, relatively unleached and less acidic than soils elsewhere in BC.
