Did you know that our Universe has over a hundred billion galaxies with each galaxy having billions of stars. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way is located in a supercluster of thousands of galaxies called Virgo Supercluster and the observable universe is estimated to contain 10 million of such supercluster.
Talking of astronomical numbers:
- Diameter of our universe is estimated to be 28.5 gigaparsecs or 93 billion light-years!
- Our nearest galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy is about 2 million light years
- Nearest star from our Sun is Alpha Centauri is about 4.3 light-years from Earth
- The edge of our own solar system is 143.73 billion km from the Sun
- And earth is merely 149.6 million km from the sun and the nearest celestial body our Moon is only 384,400 km
National Geographic Maps has a great collection of maps & posters published over the years with lot of such interesting details and pictures from our universe, the solar system, planets and the moon. They not only inspire ideas and thoughts but are great decor pieces to put on your wall or gift to someone.
