    Michigan is located in the Midwestern region of the United States. Michigan consists of two peninsulas surrounded by the four great lakes namely Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

    The upper peninsula is bounded by the state Wisconsin in the southwest whereas the lower peninsula is bounded on the south by the state of Ohio and Indiana. International borders with the Canadian province of Ontario in the southwestern part, is also separated by the great lakes.

    The northern boundaries are entirely water boundaries from north to south with Illinois and Wisconsin.
