The Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. This country occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island shared with Haiti. It is the second-largest Caribbean nation by area and third by population.
The country has many small offshore islands among which the two largest islands are Saona, in the southeast, and Beata, in the southwest.
