This vibrant and detailed map of the world has been the recipient of two prestigious awards from The British Cartographic Society. An informative piece by the Global Mapping, the map is annotated with various environmental problems and highlights the various human activities that affects our planet. It comes with detailed and intuitive inset maps showing zones of deforestation, urbanisation, land degradation, and climate influences over the planet. Also included are additional informative notes about environmental issues like acid rain, air pollution, environment hotspots, oil spills, and more.

The map uses subtle undertones to show geographical areas (landmasses) - mountain ranges and deserts with altitude colouring and clearly defined lines to mark political boundaries, water bodies, and relief shading to show terrain areas. A close-up panel of the Arctic Environmental Changes at a scale of 1:67500000 shows the vulnerable zones and focuses on other natural issues lurking on the planet. Place names including countries, cities, and capitals are displayed in readable fonts.

The map uses a scale of 1:30,000,000 and is composed as per the Robinson projection - which shows the entire world at once. The prognosis was created in an attempt to find good compromise to the problem of showing the spherical globe as a flat image. Moreover, a detailed index section given with the map provides a clear picture of the symbols used all over the map to denote alarming global warming issues. Grouped into three types, they are: Man-made pollution (nuclear test sites and accidents, oil spills, etc), Natural Phenomena (deforestation, desertification, droughts, etc) and Environmental Impacts (pollution black spots, coral bleaching, areas affected by acid rain, etc).

This detailed map discloses the history of how the natural environment has constantly posed pressure and threats on our planet. With the rise in the world’s population, there has been drastic growth in demands of people. Be it from the consumption of Earth’s natural resources like water, raw materials, and energy. By consuming more than needed, human beings have accelerated environmental change to a level where the planet is gradually becoming unsustainable in terms of sustaining the population of the planet.
